Community Guidelines

Many stories posted here describe frightening, traumatic or deeply personal experiences. Treat every author with respect, even when you are skeptical. Questions are welcome; mockery is not.

Do not ridicule someone's beliefs, culture, religion or language. Our community spans English, Hindi and Thai speakers, and what reads as an ordinary superstition to you may be a lived reality to someone else.

Harassment of any kind — insults, threats, dogpiling, or following a member from thread to thread — will result in moderation action.

HorrorGod is first and foremost a place for true accounts. When you submit a story marked as a true story, you are telling the community that it happened to you or to someone you personally know, as honestly as you can remember it.

Fiction is welcome too — but it belongs in the fiction category, clearly labelled. Passing invented stories off as true experiences erodes the trust this community is built on and may lead to your stories being rejected or removed.

Do not repost stories copied from other sites, books, films or creators. Plagiarized content is removed and repeat offenders are banned.

Horror often touches on dark subjects. If your story contains graphic violence, gore, abuse, self-harm, or the death of children or animals, say so at the top of your story in a short content warning line.

Stories that exist purely to shock — gratuitous gore or abuse with no narrative — are not what this community is for and may be rejected by moderators.

Never post another person's real name, address, phone number, workplace, or any other identifying information — whether they are a member of this site or a person in your story. Change names and blur details when telling true stories about real people.

Doxxing — publishing private information to identify or expose someone — results in an immediate permanent ban and, where required, a report to authorities.

Protect yourself too: think twice before including details in your stories that could identify you or your family.

Illegal content of any kind, including content that sexualizes minors, incites violence, or glorifies real-world atrocities.

Hate speech targeting people based on ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or caste.

Spam, advertising, link farming, or using stories to funnel readers to paid products or other platforms.

Impersonating other members, moderators, or site staff.

New stories enter a moderation queue and are reviewed by a moderator before publishing. This usually happens within a day. If a story is rejected, you receive a notification with the moderator's note explaining why, and you may revise and resubmit.

Replies are published immediately but can be reported by any member. Use the report button — do not start public arguments about moderation in the threads.

Moderators may edit titles for clarity, add missing content warnings, lock threads that have derailed, or remove content that breaks these rules.

Most problems are handled with a friendly warning. Continued or serious violations lead to temporary suspension, and the worst offenses — doxxing, hate speech, predatory behaviour — lead to a permanent ban without warning.

Bans and suspensions are logged and reviewed by administrators. If you believe a moderation decision was wrong, you can appeal by contacting an administrator through the contact link in the footer. Appeals are read by a person, not a machine.

This community works because people trust each other with their strangest, most vulnerable moments. Honor that trust. Tell your stories honestly, read generously, and leave the darkness on the page.
